Arizona Immigration Law

Well as many of you have already heard Arizona has signed the new Immigration Bill that allows officers to pull over anyone or approach anyone that looks, sounds, or are in any way similar to an immigrant.  Therefore the Hispanic population is being racially profiled against along with other racial backgrounds.  Why is Arizona focusing on Hispanic backgrounds in particular Mexicans?  Well Arizona is faced with Mexicans crossing the borders and “trespassing” into their state.  What I love about all this is Arizona used to be Mexico until 1848.  When you think about it that really isn’t that long ago when you’re thinking history.  Thus, we have all these people that have been living peacefully in Arizona and their ancestors have been part of that state long before the ancestors of the current citizens arguing for Mexicans to get out.  Oh, I’m sorry,  illegal Mexicans.  Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is a powerful figure and supporter of the minutemen in Arizona is now enforcing law enforcement against anyone Hispanic whether they are legal or not just solely because they do not have the correct identification on them at that time.  Now think about yourself.  Have you ever left the house forgetting something?  Have you ever forgotten your drivers license?  Now for most US citizens that would forget their drivers licence or even insurance could go on their merry way and prove at a later point that they have it.  You have that choice to go home and get that proof.  Unfortunately for Hispanics in Arizona, they don’t have that chance.  If they don’t have that documentation on them at that moment, they are arrested.  How is that fair?  Imagine walking your kid to the park and getting arrested because you didn’t even think to bring identification since it’s in your purse or wallet at home due to the fact that you didn’t need it.

Asking Hispanics to show proof of citizenship is not only racial profiling, it is illegal.  Civil liberties are rights and freedoms that protect an individual from the state. Civil liberties set limits on the government so that its agents cannot abuse their power and interfere unduly with the lives of private citizens.  Common civil liberties include the rights of people, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech, and additionally, the right to due process, to a trial, to own property, and to privacy.  Well, Arizona law enforcement is now abusing their power.  We are a country built of freedom, and yet we are rewinding time and becoming more and more imprisoned as a nation.  An interesting fact is that Arizona is where the minutemen regime was founded.  Even though the minutemen deny to be racist they are most commonly compared with Nazi supremacist.  Now we have a state that is requiring any person that looks Hispanic to show identification.  Hmmm… sounds a little similar to anyone that looks Jewish or doesn’t have blue eyes and blond hair to wear the Star of David.  If you are interested in learning more on the minutemen or immigration, please check out more by doing your own research or going to the culture section of this site.
