Vocabulary

As a teacher, great ideas keep pouring, but unfortunatley a book has a beginning and an end.  For many teachers, that’s not enough.  If you are looking for new vocabulary or would like to add vocabulary to what you already have, this is where to find it.  Any of the vocabulary below and practice to go with it is all for you.  If it has stars (**) it is free.  If not, you will be directed to TeacherPayTeacher.com.

Also, check out some of the great videos shown below.

¿Qué Hora Es?

This is a fun, silly video for the students that I show at the beginning of the year.  They always enjoy it.  To be honest there isn’t much educational material in here and the students always want to say “frío” to tell someone to chill out.  I like to point out before it even starts to say”chill” is “cálmate.”

¿Qué Hora Es 2?

Buenos Días

This is a fun song that practices basic conversation vocabulary.   Now, if you are anything like me you will notice there are no accents and that will drive you crazy.  I have my students get out a half piece of paper before I even start this video and they have to write down everything they see and correct  it if it can be corrected.

¿Cómo Te Llamas?

This is a very catchy song and the students like to sing to it in the halls.  It’s makes you feel very proud when you hear Spanish not only inside your room, but also outside of it.

¿Cómo Eres?

This is also a fun song for the students who are learning basic conversation.

¿Cómo Es tu Familia?

This is a great video/rap with Family Vocabulary.  Before showing this I write down the questions the video asks and put them up on the board and have the students answer them.  Therefore, I know they understand what is being said in the video and aren’t just listening to the rhythm.

Es Hora de …

This is good for first year students or students learning/reviewing basic vocabulary.

De Colores

This is an excellent song to show when learning colors.  I always have my students listen and learn this song.  Justo Lamas also sings this song and I have Justo Lamas perform at my school every year (knock on wood).

Los Días de la Semana

This is a good video to show when learning Day of the Week in Spanish.

Cuatro Sustos

I show this when the students learn the idiomatic expression: tener miedo de.  I know it’s a longer way to teach one expression, but they never forget it.  Afterwards, I have them write in Spanish what they are afraid of along with what their family members and or friends are afraid of.

Cabeza Hombros Rodillas Pies

This is a video to show when learning body parts.  I’ve always heard and taught “Cabeza Hombros Piernas Pies.”  There are different versions of this song depending where one is from.

Cabeza Hombros Piernas Pies

This is a kids song demonstrating “Cabeza Hombros Piernas Pies.”  In this version they make all the words singular.
